Throughout my work I explore my heritage and myexperience as a global nomad. I am captivated by the richness and diversity inland, the colours and textures changing by location, season, even time of day.I find myself drawn to the changes in the sky, the blues and pinks and creamsflowing into each other, and yet the universality of the sky captures me too.My art practice is multidisciplinary including strong textile, painting andwoodcarving practices. I draw onimpressionist painting styles, gestural movements capturing my memories ofspace, grounding the work with the detail and comfort of textile art and therigidity and strength of woodcarving. I play in between worlds of landscapeart, capturing the beauty of the natural alongside memories and love in urbanspaces that sometimes is left unnoticed. I aim for my work to be tactile andimmersive, inviting viewers to experience the sanctuary I felt throughoutthe making process.
Growing up an international nomad, Paige Bowen has a fractured sense of home. Having lived through 4 international moves before graduating High School, she has found it hard to connect with her heritage and her history as a South African. After graduating high school, Paige went to George Brown College, completing the Art and Design Foundation CertificateProgram before moving on to OCAD University graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting. Here, Paige discovered her love for landscape and land-based art work. She drew upon her love for South AfricanNature and her experiences moving to create pieces that drew together ideas of connection and isolation, family and loneliness. She worked primarily in Oil painting, expanding her practice during her degree to include embroidery work as well as woodcarving in her practice.
Paige values learning. Her practice develops as she learnsnew methodologies for making, helping her find new ways to bring togethercomfort and connection with isolation. Currently she is studying at FlemingCollege, completing the Fibre Arts and Ceramics Certificate Programs by Spring2025. After this Paige aims to delve into a teaching practice, her goal to helpcreatives deepen their ideas, explore new methodologies and push themselves.Having become who she is as an artist because of both the great and badteachers she’s had along the way she is excited to push herself in this new wayto be that good teacher for another student looking to grow.
