Oil Paintings
My oil painting practice started in 2021, learning from teachers at OCAD University. As soon as I started working with Oils, I fell in love. The texture, the colour, the meditative process, everything about Oil was so exciting to me. As soon as I started oil painting, I became interested in ways to enhance them further. In the painting "Evening Light", I spent time grinding brick and created my own paint using the resulting pigment. The process of creating paint called to me, and I have since dabbled in creating watercolours and in creating dyes. I also added texture by incorporating my textile practice. I began incorporating embroidery into my painting in late 2021, doing a series of interior paintings about home and safety. I included the embroidery to symbolise connection and to have the viewer find a meditation in the chaos of the painting. From there, my process expanded and I have been using embroidery to capture light, detail and colour ever since.
